Beauty and the Beast is a 1991 American animated musical romantic fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. Based on the French fairy tale by Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont, Beauty and the Beast is the 30th film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series and the third film of the Disney Renaissance. Featuring the voices of Paige O'Hara and Robby Benson, with Richard White, Jerry Orbach, David Ogden Stiers and Angela Lansbury, the film tells the story of a prince who, as punishment for his cruel and selfish ways, is transformed into a hideous beast, and Belle, a beautiful young woman whom takes her father's place as a prisoner in his castle. To become human again, the Beast must earn Belle's love, lest he remain a beast forever.
